About Us
Hi, we are Newbern’s Nuggets, a small, family-run dachshund breeding program in southeast Georgia, started in 2018 with the intent of fulfilling a past family dream, and creating pets for families looking for a new family member and a whole lot of love.
Every one of our puppies is born and raised in our home (not in kennels), surrounded by kids, love, and the occasional vacuum cleaner they’re convinced is a monster. We health-test all our parents, and do our absolute best to provide the healthiest pets you can have.
Our variety includes mostly chocolate and tan, and black and tan, with solid, dapple, and piebald patterns, in both long and short haired coats. Most of our puppies should mature between 9-12 pounds, however, size can not be guaranteed.
If that is what you are looking for we’ve got the perfect little nugget waiting to steal your heart, socks, and occasionally sanity 😂.
Welcome to the family – we can’t wait for you to meet your new sidekick!
Dachshunds, affectionately known as wiener dogs, doxies, or carpet sharks were originally bred in Germany to hunt badgers (yes, that's why they are so fearless, their long, little bodies were made to go underground after prey!). That heritage means today’s dachshund is brave, clever, and often convinced they’re much bigger than their 8–32 lbs.
What to expect when you bring one home:
Big personality in a small package: loyal, comical, and a touch stubborn
Three coat types: smooth, long-haired, and wire-haired
Six size/color combos recognized (standard or miniature; red, black & tan, dapple, piebald, cream, chocolate, and more)
Loves to cuddle… but also love to “hunt” socks, dig in blankets, and bark at the mailman like it’s their full-time job
Generally wonderful with kids and other pets when properly socialized
Needs moderate exercise (a couple of short walks + playtime keeps most doxies happy)
Prone to back issues, so no jumping off high furniture and keeping them lean is key
In short: a dachshund won’t just join your family, they’ll try to run it (from the comfort of your lap, of course).
